I. What is an authorization code?
An authorization code is a special password generated by the email service provider for third-party clients (such as Outlook, Foxmail, mobile email apps, etc.) and is used to verify identity in the client instead of the email login password .
Why use an authorization code instead of just entering your password? Primarily for security reasons—even if your email password is accidentally leaked, attackers cannot log into your email through a third-party client because the authorization code is independent and can be revoked individually .
Important Note: Authorization code ≠ email password. When setting up your email in a third-party client, enter your complete email address as the username and the authorization code , not your website login password, as the password field .
II. General Retrieval Steps (Applicable to most email addresses)
The interfaces of different email service providers may vary slightly, but the core process is basically the same:
-
Log in to your web-based email account (it is recommended to do this on a computer).
-
Go to Settings → Find the relevant options such as "Account Security", " POP3/SMTP/IMAP Service " or "Client Settings" (taking Sina Mail as an example).

-
Enable POP3/SMTP/IMAP services (if not already enabled).
-
Verify your identity via mobile phone (usually requires sending an SMS verification).
-
Generate and copy the authorization code (usually a 16-character alphanumeric combination).
-
Keep it safe (the authorization code is usually only displayed once and cannot be viewed again after closing).
